There’s no place like home

Making a euthanasia appointment for your beloved pet is never easy. It may come after months of heart-wrenching consideration, or you may be faced with it much more suddenly.

Choosing the right place to put your pet to sleep can make such a difference to those important final moments. There is nothing wrong with taking your pet to your own vet for the final appointment, but opting for a home euthanasia service is worth considering.

Your cat or dog will be comfortable and relaxed at home, and you will have privacy and time to say goodbye. The whole experience has a calmness that is hard to replicate in a vet practice for several reasons.

Massy

From my first call to Christine and Lauren, we were treated with kindness, respect and empathy. Ben informed us every step of the way during the procedure. If it is possible to have a ‘beautiful death’ this was it. We were all, Massy in particular, treated with dignity and respect. It was a very quiet and peaceful transition for her and for that we are extremely grateful.

The benefits of putting your pet to sleep at home

Fewer worries for your pet

Cats and dogs often don’t like going to the vets, even for routine visits. The noise and smell of both the clinic and other animals can upset them, especially when they are feeling ill and vulnerable. Some pets may even be afraid of the vet themselves from previous visits. With a home euthanasia service they won’t be exposed to any of these extra worries. They can relax in the comfort of their own home and see us as a friendly visitor.

No car journey

For some animals, simply getting in the car can be a stressful experience, especially if they are in pain or aren’t keen to walk. Big dogs can be challenging to move comfortably and cats often dislike carriers. Organising a home euthanasia means no car journey, as our vet will make the journey for you.

Less stress for you

You may have never considered a visit to the vets stressful for yourself, but a euthanasia appointment is a unique experience. You will be very aware of people looking at you, conscious of crying, unable to make your usual small talk, and that’s all before you have been called in. The clinical environment and your return journey through the busy waiting room without your pet may feel very isolating. Home euthanasia ensures a relaxed environment for you, as well as your pet.

A more private and intimate experience

One of the most compelling reasons to choose home euthanasia is the privacy it gives you and your family. You can let your pet fall asleep in their favourite spot on the sofa, or in the sunshine in the garden. It gives you a more intimate experience where you can grieve privately and freely.

More time to say goodbye

Our home euthanasia vets always allow ample time for each visit, and unlike practice vets they don’t have a list of consults they need to get back for. This means you can take as long as you need to say your goodbyes.

The finer details

We understand how important it is to get euthanasia right. We aim to make the whole experience calm, peaceful, and dignified for you and your pet. That means considering the details. Euthanasia and cremation is all that we do, so we have carefully thought out everything from the way the appointments are booked to the way we handle your pet afterwards. We hope these little details make a big difference to your experience.
